It looks like Google is still using this page to update us, see these  released new statistics . It has been a while so let's see what has changed over time. In case you're wondering why I haven't created a new blogpost about the Android statistics in a couple of months, it's because there are no new numbers shared yet. https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/ What does this mean? Are they not updating this page anymore? Is there another source/page that could be used? Are they postponing new updates because Android Pie (9.0) does not have market share yet? All valid questions, but to be honest, I don't know the answers. They might be busy with a new page to share this information (they once gave me a hint they might be busy with that). But so far they have not shared this with me. So I'll poke around a bit more to see if they'll tell me or update the dashboard. When building a solution for mobile users there are a bunch of solutions to choose from. Responsive Website, Progressive Web App, Android/iOS WebApp or Android/iOS App. All come with advantages and disadvantages. If you have a website that is responsive it's very easy to turn this into a (webview) WebApp. But do you need to test this? And if so, how do you test this? Some time ago I started to share Android statistics and predictions and I still keep track of these statistics. At my previous employer I also had to report on this, so I created some blogposts on their website instead of here. So I thought it might be interesting to start sharing this information again. I'll share my reasons to support or skip a certain version on the long and short term. Recently I have been focussing on test automation with mobile devices. Specifically Android and iOS (no Windows phone because that platform is as good as dead at the moment). I first wanted to make a complete manual from setting up software and devices/simulators up to a small test script. But due to lack of time I'll focus on specific parts. Introduction In December there was nothing exciting to announce. Android 5.0 was enrolled on some Android devices but not enough to gain 0,1% market share, and the same counts for January. Meaning the current Android versions continue the same way as they did before. But let's see what that means in terms of real numbers. Show me the numbers Android 4.1 and 4.2 switched places in the market share list. Android 4.4 is on a stable level for the past 7-8 months. This is first version that stays this stable over a long period of time. My explanation for this is the steady sell in phones and when the phones where replaced with Android 4.4 the cheap tablet segment is now selling tablets with Android 4.2. So the phones might have decreased but the overal number stays about the same because of the tablets.
